Explore the Little Tennessee River in its Entirety!

From the smallest spring down the trips to the mainstem of the “Little T”, travel and explore with us each month until we reach the river’s watery grave at Lake Fontana.

From the dark of winter to the long-light of summer, we’ll begin with two land trips in the upper reaches to learn about headwater history, followed by two river trips on the same section each month to provide two opportunities for you to make it. Each trip focuses on the many histories and cultures of this storied landscape and includes birding, botany, and beers afterwards.

All trips begin at 10AM and last until approximately 4PM.

Single-event and serial options are available and we traverse the uniquely south to north flow of this biologically diverse and historically rich valley.

February 15th: The Dividing Spring Cultural and Natural History Tour (Headwaters to Fontana Kickoff Event): Brent Martin will take participants on a tour of the Little Tennessee headwaters based on his research into the mysterious and elusive Dividing Spring.
March 15th: Headwaters exploration round 2: we explore on, downstream towards Bettys Creek and beyond to sense the cultural and natural history of the streams that come together in the rapid formation of the main stem of the Little Tennessee River.

Headwaters to Fontana Impoundment Paddling Trips Schedule:

Here’s your opportunity to see the entire river by boat, beginning where we leave off from the land and streamside explorations. Each month we’ll offer two trips on the same section so that you can have options. Trips vary in difficulty and length (5-10 miles) and require some basic kayaking skills. If you have none, book a private training trip with us before you start!

April 5th and April 19th: Tryphosa Road to Riverside Drive
May 8th and May 24th: Riverside Drive to Tassee Shelter
June 12th and June 21: Tassee Shelter to Lake Emory Dam
July 5th and July 19th: Lake Emory Dam to Cowee Mound
August 2nd and August 23rd: Cowee Mound to Tellico Creek
September 6th and September 27th: Tellico Creek to Wiggins Creek
October 4th and October 25th: Wiggins Creek to Fontana Impoundment

Trips are $75 per person. Paddling trips include kayak, gear, and shuttle.
